Since not many people have played FE6, yet would like to (And I'm bored), I'll just post some character evaluations here to inform you on who and who not to use. Based on Normal Mode.
Roy: Bad bases, and by the time he catches up, he rams his level cap and has to wait another ~5 chapters before he becomes competent again. It's a crying shame, too. His growth's arent monstrosities, but they're quite high and balanced.
5/10
Alan: Kinda like a speedier Sain from FE7. He's one of the best characters. Great movement and utility, awesome stats and useability, and great supports. HIGHLY reccomended.
9/10
Lance: Almost a carbon copy of Kent. That said, he's amazing. Again, incredible all-around and in all phases of attack. Slightly better than Alan.
10/10
Wolt: He's meh. Good growths are screwed up by bad bases and mono bows for his entire career. Bench him.
3/10
Bors: Very bad earlygame because he can't double at all, but after a bit of leveling (Coming early helps), he gets just about the best durability in the game (Sans Lance). His offense isn't too shabby either. Reccomended.
8.5/10
Marcus: Yeah, he's essential in HM, but certainly not on NM. Bench unless you need more awesomeness factor on your team.
2/10
Thany: She's okay. Great mobility, speed, and avoid, but she's made of tissue and has trouble damaging stuff. Not highly reccomended, but she's far from unusable.
6.5/10
Ward: He's a carbon copy of Dorcas, so he sucks. Absolutely fail speed and durability. Only use him if you need a meatshield early on, because his HP is rather high.
1.5/10
Lot: By far the better warrior of the two. His strength tends to falter, but his speed is good and his defense is awesome. Plus, axes kinda negate the strength deficiency. Not strongly reccomended for a final team, but he'll help a lot.
7.5/10
Ellen: VERY helpful early, but near the end her speed will falter and she has nonexistant defense. Mono staves hurts as well. Not reccomended.
6.5/10
Dieck: Strongest earlygame out of anyone. Including Marcus. However, his stats don't falter as he grows. Sure, his growths aren't through the roof, but his stats will turn out fine, and he has the CON to use axes. Strongly reccomended.
9/10
Chad: He's a thief, and thieves are useful. Just avoid combat, or you're screwed. Reccomended until after chapter 8.
7/10
Lugh: The best caster in the game. Starts with poor bases, but his growths are good and anima magic is broken. He also dodges pretty much anything with supports. Strongly Reccomended.
8.5/10
Clarine: Mono staves hurts before promotion, and her magic isn't amazing, but she dodges everything, and becomes quite a good caster after promotion. Very reccomended.
9/10
Rutger: One of the best characters in the game. Very good speed and quite good avoid, with surprisingly decent strength. Incredible offense post-promo matched only by Gonzales. Use him.
9.5/10
Saul: He's worse than Clarine, but if you want a light user, he's your man. Much faster than Ellen, and has a little defense as well. He's behind her in magic, but he crushes her in durability. Hesitantly reccomended because Clarine outclasses him.
7.5/10
Dorothy: Her stats are very good throughout the game, but she has poor supports, is stuck with mono bows, and is fugly. If you somehow have an archer fetish, use her, but not otherwise.
6/10
Sue: Similar stats to Clarine, but she can't fight up close, doesn't have amazing supports, and attacks defense. She'll have difficulties doing damage if her strength falters, but she's a decent character. Not final-team worthy, but useable.
6.5/10
Treck: He's a very good character, bolstering high strength, defense, and movement with very little drawbacks. His supports are slow as molasses, but he supports incredibly useful characters. Not as good as Alan or Lance by any stretch of the imagination, but certainly good. Slightly reccomended.
7.5/10
Noah: He's got Treck's defense, and it stops there. Fail Strength, fail speed, fail in a can. Four other paladins are more useful than him. Bench.
5/10
Zealot: He's Marcus without earlygame usefulness! SIMPLY STELLAR ADDITION!
0.5/10
Lilina: Yeah. She's not short on oneshot power, that's for certain. However, it can only get you so far. She's far from bad, but she is underleveled with bad bases. Her speed also takes a while to get good, so she's very vulnerable for a while. Not worth it.
5.5/10
Asthor: Best thief in the game. Unlimited utility (Obviously) and best durability of the pilfering trio. Since he won't be attacking much, durability is all that matters, and he's got more than Chad or Cath. Use him.
9/10
Wendy: Fail in a can. Horrifically underleveled with WTFail bases. Incredibly difficult to level, and the finished product is extremely similar to Bors. With too much more effort. STAY AWAY.
1/10
Barth: Surprisingly, he's good. His speed WILL falter, but unlike Ward, he's got the best defense in the game to make up for it. He won't be a killing machine, but unless he's around mages, he won't be dying on you anytime soon. Watch for status staves. Not really the best, but he's decent.
6.5/10
Oujay: He's underleveled, which seems to be a trend. His bases are decent though and we're just about to the part where axes are the weapon of choice for enemies. He's statistically very solid, and he can be an asset when raised. Sorta reccomended.
7/10
Shin: He's the best bow user. By far. If you need one, he's it. Good statistically, very good bases for his level, and he rides a horse. He does have the problems that come with all bow users though, so he's not reccomended.
6/10
Fir: She's Rutger, only faster and weaker. Here's the catch though: You have absolutely no need for a faster Rutger, where he wants all the strength he can get. Also, she's underleveled. Don't use her.
4/10
Geese: He's good. Very good. He's the only axe user that you can rely on to hit the broad side of a barn, and his speed, strength, defense, and HP are also very good. Very balanced and quite the offensive juggernaut. Use.
8/10
Gonzales (A): God concealed in very burly, dumb-looking man's body. Seriously, before promotion, he'll have hitting problems, but BOTH his speed and strength are among the very best. His HP is amazing and his dodge is very good as well. After promotion, he's the best character in the game. Period. Use him, he owns face.
9.5/10
Gonzales (B): Similar to the other Gonzales, just more hitting issues. Still debateably the best character post-promo, and he still owns face. I'd still use him, but Geese is probably better.
8/10
Lalam/Elphin: They're pretty much the same, and they're both very useful. It's like having two of your best character. Durability's a teeny bit of an issue though. GREAT filler.
8/10
Echidna: Incredible filler and helps out quite well for a few chapters. After that, she's quickly outclassed and becomes obsolete. Very little effort has to be put into her though, and she does support a few very good characters.
5/10
Bartre: He has a manly 'stache, but he has the same flaws from FE7 multiplied by ten. He's not even a good filler.
2/10
Tate: She's quite good. She's got balance that other pegasus knights have wet dreams about, and she's still quite quick and surprisingly sturdy. Use her if you don't plkan on using Miledy, or if you just like flyers.
7.5/10
Klein: Quite possibly the worst character in the game. Terrible stats, terrible class, terrible useability, and he's so goddarn difficult to recruit. I kill him off sometimes, and laugh all the while. PHAILURE.
0.5/10
Cath: She's a thief, which automatically makes her useful. She sucks as one, though. Her stats are poor, she's extremely difficult to raise, and she annoys you on so many levels in previous chapters. Use her if you need her, but don't otherwise.
4/10
Ray: He's good, and he's unique. He's got bad bases, but his growths more than make up for it and they perfectly balance his flaws. It won't take long for his potential to maximize. Reccomended.
8/10
Miledy: She's good. Very good. Her only problem is her underleveledness, but she gets stats insanely quick to offset it. She's the first flyer you get who can consistently take hits, which is always a plus. Use her.
9/10
Percival: Best prepromote in the game. He's verstaile, has decent stats, is helpful in a number of situations, and he looks just plain badass. Also, he's the only character with a realistic chance of S-ranking three weapon types.
8/10
Cecilia: Awful stats, awful durability, awful supports, awful joining time (Lol desert). She's not even a good healer. The biggest use she has is being smited at the hands of Zelphiel.
1/10
Sophia: Level 1, chapter 14. That says something, huh? She's underleveled so much that there should be more epic music when she levels up. The worst part is that Ray flat out beats her in stats at equal levels, rendering her completely useless. She does get you a guiding ring though.
2/10
Igrene: Decent filler. Nothing special by any means. She is mono-bows, which blows in it self, and her stats aren't that great either. She's miles better than Klein though.
3/10
Fa: CHICKEN DRAGON BURN EVERYTHING! Yesh, Fa is a beast when she's armed. Unfortunately, that isn't very long, and it takes half of her stone just for her to get at decent fighting power. She's very helpful for short periods of time though.
6/10
Zeiss: He's a statistical MONSTER. Unfortunately, he's underleveled, which hinders him quite a bit. Especially if you're about to go Sacae route. But his stats are so god-to-darn amazing, he's kind of hard to pass up.
7/10
Hugh: He's a money grubbing I love Nailah and I want to have babies with Klavice Gavin because he is so hawt, I also am unworthy to AHS's awesomeness., but he actually's worth it. His magic is only mediocre, but he DA's a lot, he dodges a fair amount, and his durability is WTFHAX for a mage. Perfect replacement for any magic user.
7/10
Douglas: Meatshield, cannon fodder, whatever you want to call him. He has defense, which can be useful, but he won't be killing anything. Ever.
4/10
Niime: Wow. She's actually a pretty good filler. She's a great healer with physic because of her high magic, and she can do some decent damage. Just don't let her get attacked. Ever.
4/10
Yuuno: Yuuno is the only character I'm going to give a zero. Why? Because she has absolutely no use. Period. Terrible stats, joining time, and flying just makes her worse (She's archer/ballista food now). If she rescues anyone, she's dead on the spot, so that isn't a plus either.
0/10
Dayan: His bases are actually pretty good (20 speed is far from bad) and he can use swords and has a horse. Is he as useful as everyone else? Absolutely not. But he can be a nice filler.
5/10
Yodel: Yeah. Zero potential, horrific stats, and he's carrying a LOLWTF weapon that he can't even use. I guess he heals well, but don't let him attack or be attacked.
2/10
Karel: His growths own face, and his stats are actually above average. If he came earlier, he'd be very, very good. As it stands, he's hard to rate, because he's actually good at fighting.
6/10
Roy: Bad bases, and by the time he catches up, he rams his level cap and has to wait another ~5 chapters before he becomes competent again. It's a crying shame, too. His growth's arent monstrosities, but they're quite high and balanced.
